![]() ![]() You can also buy a set of OEM empties from I do have a 2nd Pro-100 that I haven't touched, so I could harvest those OEM inks from the package, but a single set is working fine for my needs. If you are a heavy print user, a 2nd set of carts/chips will likely be worth it, but if you're a home/hobbyist, a single set is workable as that is what I am doing currently. I know that sounds silly but you can get them for $49 after rebate, which is less than half the cost of a full set of OEM inks, plus you have a complete 2nd printer, including the print head that you can either try to sell on ebay or just store for the eventual day when your Pro-100 kicks the bucket. The other option is buying a 2nd Pro-100 printer. If you are not comfortable flushing the OEM yellow cart, you can buy that cart from PC and transfer the chip from the OEM yellow to the one you receive from PC.Īnother option is if you can find a set of empty OEM carts with chips still installed (ebay, friend, etc) you can avoid paying for a 2nd set of OEM inks, but I've been watching ebay and the OEM CLI-42 empty carts don't seem to come up for auction too often. It's not really hard, but does indeed take some time. You have one set that came with your printer, so if you buy a 2nd set of OEM you'll have everything you'll need, but you'll have to drill and flush the OEM carts yourself. If you really want a 2nd set of carts, which is not absolutely required, you'll need two sets of OEM cards and 2 sets of OEM chips. So I need to buy one set of filled OEM carts for the chips, then two more PC refurbished carts to swap chips? ![]() Yes, it's really the problem of not having two sets of chips that trips me up. With Canon OEM carts the sponge system is just plain superior to aftermarket compatibles. It's also all about ink flow.if a refilled cart won't drip out of the discharge hole when the refill plug is out, then it means you will have ink starvation and cook the print head. Yes you can refill them without flushing, but i found a year later that flushing my carts that i refilled were a real PIA to get clean vs flushing freshly emptied OEM carts, so i believe that the aftermarket ink and OEM ink do have something going on which is not as bad as what happens with the yellow jello issue. ![]() I have been refilling for 6 months and just use a single set of OEM carts and that works just fine for my needs, so it's not required that you have a 2nd set, although it does make it easier.Īnother vote for sticking with the OEM carts. If you are worried about the OEM yellow cart, just buy a yellow cart from PC and move your OEM yellow chip to the PC cart. Since any cart will require an OEM chip, you might as well buy a 2nd set of OEM inks, use them all up, flush them, and then retrofit them for refilling. ![]()
